The new iPhone is likely to be called iPhone 5 and unveiled next week on Wednesday 12 September, 2012.
iPhone maker Apple has sent out invites to an event that will take place on that date at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10am local time - 6pm in the UK.
The black and white invitation hints that the sixth version of Apple’s signature smartphone will be called the iPhone 5 as it shows the number 12 casting a shadow in the shape of the number five. Above this it reads: “It’s almost here.”
The new iPhone is expected to be thinner, have a larger display and smaller dock connector, and come with redesigned earphones. There is also speculation that it will be able to use 4G - the next-generation mobile signal - and incorporate contactless technology and wireless charging.
